THE LEGEND GROWS

Updated: Sep 5

The heroes of our first chapter will never be forgotten. Jamie Snelling, Aaron Harris, Harrison Simpson and Austin Pegg, champions at Le Mans.  Once invincible and perhaps weakened by an absentee Pegg. Now they lay wounded, crushed under the wheels of a runaway ‘Uber Eats’ on the Belgium hillside.

Uber Eats, a trio forged in the evening race practice sessions at VRROOM, chose Japanese steel over Bavarian axe - ‘agility over brute force’ - to outwit their opponents. Alex Mitchell, Alex Bourgeios and Ezekiel James emerged champions in their Honda NSX. The waters of ‘Eau Rouge’ forever run red in memory of Saturday 8th August, 2024.

The battle began in the late afternoon.  An hour or more of fearsome fighting followed. Uber Eats just inches away from the clutches of the ‘Bumper Munchers’. The tenacious crew of Joshua Pounds, Albert Lucking and Toby Klein proved themselves worthy contenders at Le Mans and returned to the battlefield at SPA. Once again victory eluded them and they must be content with second honours.

Never underestimate the Dawsons. Blood runs thicker than water and this family team  grows stronger with each encounter. For those chapters yet to be written, their shadow looms menacingly over this author’s shoulder.

There were many warriors scattered on the hillside that day, each with their own tale of misfortunate and lost opportunity. Brief moments of weakness that prevented them from reaching their ultimate destiny.

James Down, Mark Briggs, Ben Horne, Tom Reid, Lawrie Mewse, Taku Makamute, Luke Jackson, Joshua Hilton, Cameron Crowther, Tom Johnson, Cayden O'Donnell, Craig Mathieson, Dave Smith, Paul Michelli, Dave Standing, David Towse, Jeremy Gapper-Towse, Jon Pavey and Matthew Reese Edwards. All bravely took to the field. They stood tall. They counted. Legends grow stronger, the greater the gathering.

But what happened to our heroes from Le Mans? Will they rise from the ashes or wither in defeat. Will Uber Eats dominance in Belgium extend over the horizon?

We set our sites on Daytona, rewinding the clock more than twenty years.  A time when cars  were mostly devoid of electronic aids and forged in blacksmith fires for maximum power. GT cars with monstrous twelve cylinder engines will once again echo off the banked corners of the American 'Circus Maximus' that is Daytona. The fated date? Saturday, 5th October.

So now we call upon the new and old, rookies and veterans alike to answer the call to arms.  You only live once. Some say you’ll live longer, if you live less dangerously. Nonsense, it just feels that way.

Race practice sessions are available Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Choose between 6-8pm or 8-10pm. You get two hours at Daytona Road coarse. You can drive a Ferrari 550, Ferrari 575, Lamborghini Murcielago, Dodge Viper, Saleen S7 or Lister Storm. You can switch cars at any point during the session. Race Practice is an excellent way to prepare, discover where your lap time features on the leaderboard and find new team mates.
