This summer was our first competition dedicated to young drivers. The NXT GEN challenge asked who could set the fastest lap around the Silverstone GP circuit in a modern F4 single seater. Our simulators are configured to deliver realism – similar to the setups used by professional drivers, rather than arcade style entertainment. Setting a good lap at VRROOM means you need skills and setting the perfect lap takes dedication.
The leaderboard was split into three age categories (11-13, 14-16, 17-18) and ran until 31st August. Our search for the next generation of motorsport saw one hundred and twenty seven entrants and welcomed some awesome young drivers.
Ages (11-13)
Jack Smart set the fastest lap time of 2:05.258, followed by Isaac Barker with a time of 2:06.457 and then Chase Preston 2:06.485.
Ages (14-16)
Freddie Lane having led throughout the summer was momentarily displaced by Louis Johnson only for Freddie to return and improve, regaining the top spot with an exceptional time of 203.292. Louis Johnson’s time of 2:03.430 secured 2nd place while Zidane Soleman took third place 2:04.729. It is worth noting that all three drivers finished with times inside the top 5 overall.
Ages (16-18)
Harrison Simpson set the fastest overall time across all age groups of 2:02.748. An incredible time for anyone of any age. Ollie Heath claimed second with a time of 2:07.773 while Afri Kamunjanganja took third spot with a time of 2:09.430.
Prize giving
As our first ‘Junior’ challenge, The winners in each age category (based on the hot lap leaderboard) will receive a Moza R3 Steering wheel and pedal set (compatible with both Xbox and PC) as their prize. We will contact the winners and invite them to the prize giving event in the near future. Second and third place winners each receive a free pair of VRROOM branded sim racing gloves which can be collected on your next visit at any time.
Moving forward
Starting now and running until 31st December a new hot lap challenge is available in the same three age categories featuring F4 cars at the legendary SPA Francorchamps circuit. You can book any Schools Out session and try once again to top the leaderboard.
Racing
While Hot lap events provide the flexibility to come at any time, race events require everyone to attend on the same day at the same time. Racing is the ultimate challenge as you not only need to be fast, you need to cope with having other drivers fighting alongside you at every corner. Registration is now open for our first Junior Grand Prix (Silverstone) and will take place at 1pm Sunday 5th October. Drivers will compete in their age category for glory and a nice trophy.
